NRA Basic Shotgun Course
This is a HANDS-ON training course! Full day course teaches students how to properly shoot a shotgun. Shotgun shooting techniques differ from rifle and pistol techniques.
An additional $22 will be due at the range for range fees and ammunition.

***This course is not recommended for first-time shooters***

  • Students who have completed a course may return as a "sit-in" as many times as they like. (SFFA will not provide materials)



    You must bring a copy of your receipt the day of the course to verify your payment and complete the enrollment process.
    On-site instructors do not have internet access and will not be able to verify your payment.

    Gate opens at 7:45 a.m.
  • Course begins promptly at 8:00 a.m.
    Check-in at the Pistol Range office.
  • Go to the Air Gun Hall for SFFA course registration.
    The Air Gun Hall is the large building with the words "Public Shooting" painted on it that is visible from Euclid and Pomona Rincon Road.

Shotgun shooting is a fun and rewarding experience. This class will introduce you to the world of shotgun shooting and its techniques. Course topics include: How Your Shotgun Works, Ammunition, Selecting a Shotgun, Safety, Caring For Your Shotgun, Fundamentals of Shotgun Shooting, Advanced Shooting Skills and Shotgun Shooting Opportunities. The live fire portion of the class will be conducted at an outdoor shotgun range where you will get the opportunity to shoot clay targets out of the air. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Students are encouraged to bring their own shotgun. If you do not have your own, 12 guage shotguns will be provided for adults and 20 guages will be provided for children. Ammunition will NOT be provided for this course and may be purchased at the shooting facilities the day of the course. Approximately 25 shotgun shells will be required for each student. All other materials will be provided. A certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the course. This course is not recommended for children who are first time shooters due to the recoil of even the 20 guage shotguns! Children should start with a basic rifle course.
