The NRA Basic Pistol course emphasizes the attitude, knowledge and skills necessary to safely handle a pistol/revolver.
The course emphasizes safety and the basic fundamentals of shooting; positions, grips, aiming, sight picture control, trigger control and follow through as well as exercises to enhance the taught techniques.
Students will learn how to identify different types of handguns, how each type functions, the loading and unloading procedures and possible firearm malfunctions for each type.
Students will learn how to identify the correct ammunition for a firearm and the nomenclature used in ammunition identification as well as the procedures required to deal with ammunition malfunctions.
A supervised and coached live fire exercise ensures students properly employ all learning objectives.
Ammunition and low recoil pistols are provided.
Students will see a significant improvement between the first and last shot. A certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the live-fire qualification and a written examination.

Safety First Firearms Academy uses LOW-RECOIL firearms for training the fundamentals. It has been our experience that large caliber firearms make it near impossible for instructors to properly coach students on the proper techniques during live-fire exercises. The live-fire exercises are intended to inform students of their use of good technique AND deficiencies that will require corrections and more practice. The techniques we teach you are easily transferred to larger caliber firearms.

SPOT ON! December 19, 2011
Reviewer: MV from Southern California
Spot on coaching! The instructor watched me intently during the live-fire and not the targets. He gave constant corrections and wouldn't let my bad habits take hold. When he says don't look at the target to see where you are shooting, he means it. At first it felt like a marathon and I didn't understand what he was doing. At the end we looked at the targets and he told me exactly what I did wrong. By the end of the day I had nice tight shot groups. I never though I could shoot like that. Thanks Richard!

NRA Pistol November 6, 2011
Reviewer: Christopher from Tustin
I had a great time and learned a lot more than I thought I would. The range is a little rustic but it's nice in the canyon. Excellent coaching on the range. Be sure to listen to the instructor's corrections, hes got a knack for knowing what you're doing wrong. Everyone got individualized coaching. Excellent!

Good class October 11, 2011
Reviewer: Carlos Sanchez from Santa Ana, CA
Me and my wife took the basic pistol course because we want to buy a gun for home protection. My wife was afraid of guns and almost didn't come but now she wants her own. She knows exactly what she wants and she keeps asking about going to the range! She shot better than me too. She finally let me take the guns out of storage. Our kids are going through the rifle class so they know how to handle guns since we have them in the house now. The coaching is great. Well worth the money, should be more.

Excellent Course! September 20, 2011
Reviewer: Roger from Coto De Caza, CA United States
Very comprehensive! This is where every shooter should start! I never knew how little I knew until I took this course. I had a little accuracy issue and Richard fixed it in the live-fire. He is very knowledgeable and a great shooting coach. I am very confident when I handle my Sig.
